Will Fenstermaker is a writer covering art, design, and material culture from Los Angeles. He writes about the objects people make, collect, and live with—and the histories and ideas those objects carry. His art criticism treats craft and connoisseurship as serious subjects, examining how a thing is made, why it endures, and what it comes to mean once it outlasts the intentions behind it. Will’s writing appears in Artforum, Craft + Tailored, Family Style, Frieze, The Los Angeles Times, The Nation, The Paris Review, T Magazine, and Crown & Caliber, among other publications. He is a contributing editor of art, architecture, and design at Totei. Previously head of editorial at Sotheby’s, he led auction coverage for art, watches, cars, wine, and more. As editor at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, he launched the museum’s online magazine. At Frieze, he served as interim reviews editor and contributing writer. In 2023, he received an Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant and was shortlisted for the International Awards for Art Criticism. Will collects watches that demonstrate craft, history, and design, including pieces by Zenith, Omega, Tudor, and Nomos. He holds an MFA in art criticism and writing from the School of Visual Arts and a BA in literature from The George Washington University. A native New Yorker, he now lives in Venice, CA.
