Patek Philippe Gondolo Watches
Popular Used Patek Philippe Gondolo Watches
Patek Philippe’s Gondolo models embody the spirit of Art Deco style. The collection draws inspiration from an exclusive line of watches commissioned in the early twentieth century. Decades later, Patek Philippe decided to create a contemporary reinterpretation of the models from the 1900’s, and the Gondolo collection was born. With strong lines and geometric simplicity, the Gondolo is a unique addition to the Patek Philippe family of watches and has quickly become a staple of the brand.

About Patek Philippe Gondolo
The Gondolo collection is one of the newer additions to the Patek Philippe family of watches, first introduced in 1993. However, the inspiration for the line has deep roots. Back in the early 1900’s, at the dawn of the Art Deco movement, Patek Philippe was commissioned to create a unique pocket watch by the Brazilian Jewelers Gondolo & Labouriau. The result gave rise to the famous Chronometro Gondolo pocket watches. By 1910, the collection evolved into a line of wristwatches, featuring square, rectangular, and tonneau shaped cases.
Fast forward nearly a century later. Patek Philippe’s partnership with the esteemed Brazilian jewelers was long in the past. Still, the memory of the Chronometro Gondolo wristwatches remained. Thus, the brand debuted the official Gondolo collection, embodying the twentieth century spirit of Art Deco style. Many of Patek Philippe’s watches are characterized by a timeless, classic aesthetic. However, the Gondolo collection reflects the brand’s commitment to contemporary interpretation without sacrificing the sophistication the brand is known for.
The defining features of the Gondolo are its strong lines and geometric simplicity. Most watches in Patek Philippe’s offerings boast a more traditional round case. However, the Gondolo collection is known for its more unusual face shapes—square, rectangular, and tonneau—inspired by the original Chronometro Gondolo wristwatches.
One of the most notable variations of the model debuted in 2013. With the Ref. 5200 Gondolo 8 Days, Day & Date, Patek Philippe unveiled an entirely new concept for the collection. The model draws inspiration from the Ref. 5100 10-Day released about a decade prior. Both showcase the iconic, rectangular Gondolo case shape and prominent power reserve indicator. However, the Ref. 5200 also boasts a few key updates, namely for the addition of the day/date complication.
The Gondolo may not be the most widely popular collection in the Patek Philippe family of watches. Nevertheless, it’s arguably one of the most unique. Even though it officially became one of the staple collections of the brand just a few decades ago, the Gondolo has a rich history that gives is a distinct character and personality all its own.
