The TAG Heuer Monaco collection was launched in 1969 and featured both the first automatic chronograph and the first non-traditional square case in the history of the brand. One of the more notable features of the timepieces in the Monaco collection is that they are waterproof up to 50 meters. The Monaco collection gained fame and recognition by becoming an iconic symbol worn by Steve McQueen in the 1970 film Le Mans. These timepieces are both sporty and sophisticated with the option of either an alligator or a rubber strap. Another accent on the timepieces in the Monaco collection is the fluted crown to ensure easy adjustments. There is also a date feature at the six o'clock position, but other than this complication, the watches in the Monaco collection are simple and sleek. Another minimalist element of the collection is the absence of numbers on the watch face. As is standard on TAG Heuer timepieces, there is sapphire crystal on both the front and back of the case.
