About Rolex Datejust II Watches
TThe original Datejust debuted in 1945 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Rolex Company. The model quickly became one of the most popular watches offered by the brand. Over fifty years later, one of the most important variations of the Datejust launched in 2009: the Datejust II.
The Datejust II brought the model into the modern era. The design is more streamlined and sportier than its predecessors, with an Oyster bracelet and lume on its dial. It still features the iconic Oyster case, which offers a screw-down crown and water resistance up to 100 meters. However, it’s noticeably larger and more contemporary, measuring 41mm. The hefty size allows for more space and better proportions between the Cyclops lens over the date, the hour markers, and the crown at the 12-o’clock position. The Datejust II also includes the brand’s signature Twinlock Winding Crown. This enhances the water resistance of the watch with two sealed zones. Overall, the aesthetic of the Datejust II is notably different than the original Datejust. However, the real innovation of the Datejust II is on the inside.
The Datejust II is equipped with an upgraded and impressive movement: the new caliber 3136. The caliber 3136 is a self-winding mechanical movement developed in-house by the brand. Like all Rolex Perpetual movements, the caliber 3136 is certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC). The movement also features Rolex’s patented Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers.
The Datejust and Datejust II are both excellent watches, each in their own right. With the Rolex name, you know you’re getting a watch with some of the highest quality standards in the industry. However, if you’re looking for a watch you can easily dress up for a day at the office and dress down for a Saturday at the ballpark, the Datejust II is the modern yet sporty watch for you.
