Although the Ballon Bleu is a newer collection for Cartier, it has quickly become one of the most iconic and popular models for the brand. Designed with both men and women in mind, the collection is offered in a wide range of size and style options to suit any unique taste. The Ballon Bleu incorporates some distinctly modern elements, yet still encompasses some of the brand’s timeless and trademark features, making it unmistakably Cartier.
First released in 2007, Cartier’s Ballon Bleu is one of the brand’s newer collections. Even though the model is young, it still perfectly captures the timelessness and tradition of the Cartier brand. With its Roman numeral hour markers, sword-shaped hands, and trademark blue sapphire crown, the Ballon Bleu is instantly recognizable as a Cartier.
The Ballon Bleu collection’s design appeals to both men and women. It features a round, pebble-like case with a distinctive guilloche dial protected by a domed sapphire crystal. The result is a watch that’s both comfortable enough for everyday wear yet elegant enough for a night out. Another unique feature of the Ballon Bleu is the design of the crown. The crown guard is seamlessly integrated into the case and slopes over the sapphire cabochon crown. Plus, it’s offered in an array of styles and sizes to suit any wrist. Variations of the model range from 28mm to 46mm and are available in multiple materials from stainless steel to white gold with diamond accents and everything in between.
Over the years, there have been a few notable versions of the Ballon Blue. The first is the W69009Z3/3001. This particular model features a two-tone design with stainless steel and 18-karat yellow gold. It’s housed in a 42mm case and comes equipped with a date window at the three-o’clock position. The W69009Z3/3001 uses Cartier’s Caliber 049 automatic movement.
Another important variation of the Ballon Bleu is the W69012Z4/3001. This version is one of the most simple and straightforward editions of the model. It comes in all stainless steel, with a 42mm case. It also comes equipped with a date complication at the three-o’clock position and the brand’s Caliber 049 movement.
Finally, the Cartier Ballon Bleu W6920079. This model exemplifies the range of the collection. It boasts a large, 44mm oversized case and several complications showcased on the dial. Because of the chronograph function with a 30-minute register, seconds subdial, and date window, this model is also a bit thicker than other variations, measuring 14.8mm. The W6920079 houses Cartier’s Caliber 8101 MC movement with a 42-hour power reserve. In addition to the array of functions, this model also features a bit different aesthetic. It showcases a bold black dial and crocodile leather strap.
