What Watch Does Roger Federer Wear?

Roger Federer is one of the most instantly recognizable and highly regarded tennis players of all time. Since he was just eleven years old, he’s been one of the top ranked tennis players. In 2019, he ranked No. 3. However, Federer has held the world No. 1 spot in the ATP rankings for longer than any other male player for a total of 310 weeks. Since he went pro in 1998, he’s notched 101 career titles, twenty of them being Grand Slams. That’s the most in history for a male player. In addition to his innate tennis skills, Federer is a natural watch guy. He was born in Basel, Switzerland in the heart of watchmaking. More notably, Federer and Rolex have partnered together for over a decade.

So what watch does Roger Federer wear?

Over the years, Federer has proudly sported countless Rolex models, many while commemorating his victories. One of the most memorable came in 2009. That year was a big year for Federer. He welcomed his first set of twins, Myla and Charlene, and won his first French Open. 2009 was also the year he broke Pete Sampras’ all-time Grand Slam record at Wimbledon. As he lifted the iconic trophy after his win over Andy Roddick, he wore an Oyster Perpetual Datejust II. The 41mm model featured a stainless steel construction, complementary silver dial, and, of course, date window at the three-o’clock position. Today, this watch continues to hold a very special place in the heart of the all-star player.

Another set of memorable moments and watches came in 2012. That year, Roger Federer faced Andy Murray at Wimbledon, hoping to land his 17th Grand Slam title. He emerged victorious once again, this time upping his watch game. He sported an Everose Day-Date with gem-set hour markers and black dial while triumphantly holding the trophy above his head. Later that year at the Summer Olympic Games in London, Federer took home a silver medal. He did so wearing a GMT Master II Batman. This model gets its clever nickname from the two-tone blue and black dial.

Federer would sport the Batman once again after his win at the 2017 Australian Open. Later that year, he would secure his eighth Wimbledon win wearing another Datejust variation. This particular model goes by the “Wimbledon” for its slate grey dial and green Roman numeral hour markers. It also features a two-tone yellow gold and stainless steel construction.

2018 and Beyond

In 2018, Roger Federer would continue to showcase more of his Rolex collection. Following his wins at the Australian Open and U.S. Open, he showed off a Sky-Dweller. His particular model features a 42mm construction with a stainless steel design and blue dial. In addition, it boasts an annual calendar function, perfect for his demanding travel schedule during the season.

Federer’s Rolex collection isn’t just limited to the models he sports on the court after his victories. He’s also the proud owner of some “grail” models. For example, the 1981 Daytona Reference 6263 given to him by his wife on his 30th birthday back in 2011 is incredibly rare. Another special watch in his collection is a platinum Day-Date.
