…and after 50 swings that launched balls to the corners of the ballpark, the watch still kept perfect time. The Mick didn’t do it out of curiosity, though – it was part of an ad campaign Timex did in the 50s that featured celebrities. Everything about this Timex ad is great: the unique concept, the proven ruggedness of the Timex watch, the fact that it featured Mickey Mantle, and the catchy tagline.

The watches were advertised as “Waterproof, dust proof, shock resistant.” After so many powerful swings by The Mick, I’d be tempted to call the watch shock proof instead of shock resistant. Here’s the ad:
